We are all heartbroken by the unspeakable events of last Wednesday. We have prayed, cried, hugged and comforted. We are SO proud to call this amazing city home - Charleston has become a lighthouse to the rest of the world as a unified people showing incredible love, grace, strength and forgiveness.
We have an opportunity here to continue to embrace these values, to show our kids that love, compassion and grace are for all people regardless of rage, age, religion or circumstance. One of the most important things that we can do is teach our children empathy, to care for others beyond themselves. Let's teach them that no matter how small they are THEY can make a difference, Small children can help put items in a Blessing Bag, pick out school supplies for students in need, help bake cookies for the local fire or police department, pick out a gift for a foster child sing or make a card for the residents of a nursing home.
WILL YOU HELP ME? Will you help me teach our kids to care for others? We have so many local non-profits and out-reach programs here in Charleston, let's get our kids involved. Let's show them that they can help, they can love!
I am looking for organizations and ideas where our kids can get hands-on, I will be highlighting opportunities for our kids to get involved each month in Macaroni Kid Charleston - this is where I am asking for your help! As a community we are a wealth of information, please share your ideas with me!
I welcome your e-mails, suggestions, and comments - please feel free to comment here, reach out to me via e-mail at lisabayorek@macaronikid.com or message me on the Macaroni Kid Charleston FB page.
Love and blessings to you all! ~ Lisa
